Bourbon Hot Toddy
While this soothing, warming concoction can be enjoyed any time, it really hits the spot during cold and flu season, when the days are short and the nights are long. Ours is made with Meyer lemon and local honey for extra sweetness. photos by Talitha Schroeder
makes one drink–
1.5 oz bourbon of your choice
2 teaspoons local honey
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice, like Meyer!
Hot water
Place bourbon, honey and lemon juice in the bottom of an Irish coffee mug or sturdy old-fashioned glass.
Fill the glass with hot water and stir well. Float a lemon slice on top and garnish with a cinnamon stick if you like.
Variations:
Use freshly brewed hot tea in place of the hot water. Play around with different blends such as English Breakfast, Earl Grey or Orange Spice.
For a good non-alcoholic cold or flu buster, make fresh ginger tea by adding several thick coins of fresh ginger (no need to peel) to 2 cups boiling water and allow to steep off heat for 5-10 minutes. Omit the bourbon and use this in place of plain hot water. Save extra ginger tea to reheat and use later.
