Damn Good Sugar Cookies

A generation spanning recipe that has earned the title of being “Damn Good!”
For the dough:
Ingredients
1 cup softened butter
2 cups granulated sugar
4 eggs, beating in between each egg
½ cup sour cream
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
A pinch (¼ tsp.) of salt
A dash of vanilla- about a scant 1 tsp.
Roughly 4 cups of all-purpose flour
Directions
Cream together butter & sugar.
Add egg, sour cream, baking powder, baking soda, salt and vanilla.
Add enough flour to make a soft dough, start with about 4 cups flour. May need a bit more.
Chill for at least one hour.
Roll, cut into shapes and bake at 375 degrees until very lightly browned.
For the icing:
Ingredients
2-pound bag of powdered sugar
1 cup butter
1 cup sour cream
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla
Directions
Melt the butter and transfer to a mixing bowl.
Beat in the powdered sugar.
Add the sour cream and vanilla, then beat at high speed until creamy and fluffy.
Divide into bowls and color with food coloring.
