Damn Good Sugar Cookies

A generation spanning recipe that has earned the title of being “Damn Good!”


For the dough:

Ingredients

1 cup softened butter
2 cups granulated sugar

4 eggs, beating in between each egg
½ cup sour cream
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
A pinch (¼ tsp.) of salt
A dash of vanilla- about a scant 1 tsp.

Roughly 4 cups of all-purpose flour

 

Directions

  1. Cream together butter & sugar.

  2. Add egg, sour cream, baking powder, baking soda, salt and vanilla.

  3. Add enough flour to make a soft dough, start with about 4 cups flour. May need a bit more.

  4. Chill for at least one hour.

  5. Roll, cut into shapes and bake at 375 degrees until very lightly browned.


For the icing:

Ingredients

2-pound bag of powdered sugar
1 cup butter
1 cup sour cream
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla

 

Directions

  1. Melt the butter and transfer to a mixing bowl.

  2. Beat in the powdered sugar.

  3. Add the sour cream and vanilla, then beat at high speed until creamy and fluffy.

  4. Divide into bowls and color with food coloring.

Bake with love, decorate with abandon, enjoy wholeheartedly!
